Inauguration Day in Washington, DC

yeOW! It was COLD! Not that I didn't live in Minnesota; but, to be in 20 degree F temps with a windchill in the teens for over 8 hours? I was in the pre-dawn group that converged on the National Mall at 4:30 am. So, this ended up being intense at the level of a spiritual pilgrimage; but, it was worth it to witness history.
The National Mall of the United States... 4,100 city cops, 4,000 imported cops, 10,000 National Guardsmen, almost 2 million, free-wheeling citizens, hundreds of cases of hypothermia, several panic attacks and a number of lost people: no arrests, no deaths, no violence.

"Never have so many people shivered for so long with such joy."

Awesome scribe!! You got to actually be there. I will confess to being happy to be inside when I saw the vid of people so bundled up and still looking cold!
I would have frozen myself to be there too. How wonderful for you. Thanks for sharing your story. (((hugs))
Intestinal fortitude is a virtue scribe!! I had a front row seat here at my little computer with Joost and Google Earth.
I find it hard to believe there were no arrests made, but shit does happen.
Please share more…
{{{hugs}}}
Excellent! Glad you were there! AWESOME
HA! Intestinal fortitude was right! I know that the satellite image has been used to estimate about 800,000 people on the mall at 11:30 am; but, the subway transported 1.1 million alone (not including walkers, bus-riders, etc).
And, believe me, a number of people had to leave. Mother Nature was just too purifying.
It is my pleasure to share it with you all! I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. It was a “we are one” kind of deal. Pretty cool.
What a blessing that you were there to witness that historic moment and shivered with joy! Feeling your bliss!
